HOW THE PROCESS WORKS
Metals are machined contactlessly and with high precision using this process. An electrically conductive electrolyte—saltwater—is supplied between a negatively charged tool electrode (cathode) and a positively charged workpiece (anode). In the machining gap between the electrode and the workpiece, the ionized material is removed anodically.
The electrode profile is thus transferred inversely onto the metal workpiece. The targeted current pulse, the oscillating tool electrode, and the extremely small working gap are the foundation for the precision of this technology. The PECM process is a further development of electrochemical machining (ECM).

Thanks to PEMTec’s use of synchronized current pulses and an oscillating tool electrode, the basis for an extremely small machining gap is created—enabling high-precision, cost-effective manufacturing with no process-related tool wear.
Components are produced completely contact-free, with no thermal or mechanical influences, featuring replication accuracy and repeatability in the low micrometer range and surface finishes down to 0.03 μm.
