The Hosokawa Alpine AFG fluidised bed opposed jet mill is ideal for ultra-fine grinding of various dry materials, with precise cut-point and maximum particle size control thanks to its integrated classifier wheel design utilizing the Hosokawa Alpine Turboplex ATP classifier head. This micronizer can be used to pulverize different coarse materials into fine powders across various industries requiring micronization, such as minerals, chemicals, food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, etc.

This mill is capable of processing hard, coarse products with a hardness of up to approximately 10 Mohs with minimal wear, achieving extremely fine product with d97 values between 4 and 100 microns maximum particle size (depending on the product) at the lowest possible energy consumption. Milling takes place in the lower section of the mill, where nozzles inject high pressure compressed gas into the fluidized bed filled with feed material. The resulting gas jets accelerate the particles, causing them to collide with each other and break down in size. Grinding occurs in the centre of the chamber, away from the mill housing, resulting in extremely low abrasion, making this mill optimal for processing abrasive materials or products requiring very low contamination in the final product. In the same chamber, air flow transports the fine particles to the classifier wheel, where unwanted oversized grains are rejected and returned to the grinding zone for reprocessing, while the fines pass through the classification area to the next stage, typically filtration. A cyclone is sometimes installed between the mill and the filter, or even an air classifier. Due to the large amount of process air required, minimal temperature increase is to be expected during grinding compared to other size reduction technologies. Final particle size distribution can be easily adjusted by changing various parameters such as compressed gas pressure, injector nozzle diameter or design, classifier wheel speed, air volume, fill level, feed rate, etc.
