Cutter Head Setting and Measuring Machine

In the manufacturing process for spiral bevel gears, the quality of the gear cutting tools used plays a decisive role. Especially during dry milling, high gear quality and long tool life can only be achieved by precisely adjusted cutter heads.

The CS 200 cutter head setting and inspection device enables fast and easy adjustment of individual cutters, checks their position, and documents the measurement results. The measurement process on the CNC-controlled inspection device is semi-automated: operator-guided instructions are displayed on the screen for each step of the procedure. The positioning of the individual cutters in the cutter head, as well as the height of the cutter tips, is largely automated via a special sequence and is simultaneously documented using a runout diagram. A subsequent measurement sequence checks the radial position of the inner and outer cutting edges of all cutters in the cutter head. If individual inspection parameters on the cutters do not meet the specified tolerances, they can be adjusted individually. By combining a semi-automated adjustment routine, operator-guided setup actions, and an automated measurement sequence, cutter heads can be set comfortably, quickly, and with high precision.
