Plunge rolling: The thread rolling dies, which have the same pitch as the workpiece, form the thread by penetrating into the workpiece up to the nominal diameter. The maximum thread length is equal to the width of the thread dies.

Through-feed rolling: Used when the thread length is greater than the thread die width. Through-feed dies have three sections – the entry, calibration, and exit zones.

Knurling rolls have no pitch and are set at the helix angle of the profile to be rolled.

Helical rolls differ from knurling rolls in that their profile includes a pitch. The sum of the pitch angle and the swivel angle results in the helix angle of the workpiece.
