Popis
        This SG 221 HDS was originally intended for shuttle service to Southern Europe, but remained a one-off model. Nevertheless, it essentially formed the basis for two other special high-deckers: the S 215 HDS and the S 216 HDS, which soon attracted many new customers for Kässbohrer. This coach also introduced the "S" designation, standing for "Super"—a fitting name for these new high-deckers. With a height of 3.63 meters, the elevated passenger compartment created even more space, accommodating not only more luggage (16 cubic meters) but also additional service amenities. Extra fuel tanks were also easily incorporated.
Regardless of which of the two Super Setras an operator chose, the engineering marvel was that, except for the front section, both models utilized modular components from the 200 series and were mechanically identical to other Setra touring coaches. The 216 HDS could accommodate up to 16 seating rows. Comparatively, the version with the underfloor cockpit offered more space. Kässbohrer had a vision with the Setra SG 221 HDS, but the ban on articulated touring coaches traveling through France prompted a shift in focus toward solo vehicles. The SG 221 HDS was subsequently used as a demonstration and information vehicle at exhibitions and conferences. With its spaciously equipped onboard kitchen, it became a central contact point for representatives and customers.
