HOW THE PROCESS WORKS
This process machines metal parts precisely and without contact. An electrically conductive electrolyte—salt water—is introduced between a negatively charged tool electrode (cathode) and a positively charged workpiece (anode). The ionized material is removed anodically in the machining gap between the electrode and the workpiece.

The shape of the electrode is mapped in reverse onto the metal. The precise current pulse, the oscillating tool electrode, and the extremely narrow working gap provide the basis for the accuracy of this technology. The PECM process is an advancement of electrochemical machining (ECM).

PEMTec achieves a very small machining gap by using a synchronized current pulse and an oscillating tool electrode. This enables highly precise and cost-effective manufacturing with no process-related tool wear.
The process is completely contactless and free from thermal or mechanical influences, producing workpieces with image accuracy and repeatability in the low micrometer range and a surface finish of up to 0.03 µm.
